UFC 280 has gotten another high-profile matchup. Bantamweight star Sean O’Malley will face his toughest opponent to date, Petr Yan.
O’Malley (11-1) is coming off a no-contest with Pedro Munhoz due to an unintentional eye-poke at UFC 276 less than a month ago. Before that match, Sean O’Malley won three straight fights against Paiva, Mouthino, and Almedia. The only loss on his record is a TKO loss against Marlon “Chito” Vera (19-7-1), who is fighting Dominick Cruz at UFC on ESPN 41 on August 13th.
Petr Yan, a former bantamweight champion, who won the title against Jose Aldo in 2020, is coming off a split decision loss against Aljamain Sterling, who will most likely defend his title at the same event against T.J. Dillashaw.
Yan and O’Malley have gone back and forth on social media for quite some time, with the latest insult coming from Yan, calling O’Malley a “pink poodle”.
UFC 280 takes place on October 22nd at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, with the main event being the lightweight title fight between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev.
