At the media day for the upcoming UFC 276 where Holloway will face Alexander Volkanovski for the third time, he has given his opinion on the conversation about the GOAT of the Featherweight division.

The conversation emerged before the trilogy fight, saying that whoever wins this upcoming fight should be considered the greatest fighter in the division’s history. Max Holloway (23-6) doesn’t think like that.

“A lot of fans, a lot of people are saying it. Do we forget the man Jose Aldo? The man got eight title wins. I have five title wins. Until someone can beat his records as a champion with the eight title wins, then they can consider themselves the GOAT in featherweight. I got five to get here. To get Alex for my sixth title win. That’s just the cherry on top.” – Holloway said to reporters on media day.

Even though Max Holloway has two wins over “The King of Rio”, his opinion is that the one with the most title defenses should be considered the GOAT.

Aldo tops the chart as the fighter with the most title defenses in the lightweight division with 8, followed by Holloway with 5, and Volkanovski with 4.

“It’s cool I’ve got the wins, but the title defenses are the title defenses. That is the actual record. He got eight title wins, I’ve got five. We’re not that far behind him. Hopefully, I can catch him, we’ll see what happens. He’s the GOAT, bro. You can’t take it away. Just because he got gifted it, the event that the UFC bought out and he was the champion, it wasn’t a gift. I’m sure if they told him, ‘Hey you’ve got to fight for the belt.’ He would’ve fought for the belt. That’s just the kind of guy Aldo is. Standup guy, hard worker, and hard fighter and the GOAT.” – said Max Holloway who aims to reclaim his title with a win over Volkanovski (24-1).

Aldo (31-7) has moved to the Bantamweight division after his loss against Volkanovski at UFC 237 in 2019. His Bantamweight record is 3-2 and he will face Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278.
