UFC 279 takes place on September 10th and will feature a Bantamweight Title Bout between the defending champion Aljamain Sterling and the former champion T.J. Dillashaw.
First reported by MMAJunkie, the fight that is to happen is not a huge surprise since Aljamain Sterling called out T.J. Dillashaw in his post-fight speech after a victory over Petr Yan back in April.
Sterling’s last two wins come over Yan, with the first being a controversial DQ, and the second by split decision. He now has 7 straight wins and his next opponent, 36 year old Dillawshaw wants to prove to the world that he is still the best in the division.
Dillashaw took a 2-year suspension over the use of banned substances (EPO), and after the suspension was over he got the win over Cory Sandhagen back in July 2021, by split-decision.
We didn’t see T.J. Dillawshaw in action since than (17-4) because of an knee injury, but he is now healed and ready to take on the bantamweight champion for the belt.
There is still no confirmed venue for the event, but the frontrunners are Atlanta and Boston.
