Source: CNN.com — “By day, (Capt). Brian Stann is a decorated Marine who completed two tours in Iraq. By night, he’s a champion fighter.” This is a REALLY cool segment that CNN did on Brian Stann. Soon to be former WEC fighter who will make his UFC debut on December 10, 2008 on UFC Fight Night 16: “Fight for the Troops”. He will be facing Steve Cantwell for the 3rd time in a grudge match for losing his WEC title back in August.

@DevilDog0311ooRAH lol, you marines are all a joke, you are a pawn to your government and are far too stupid to be the wiser. Go kill some more Iraqi or Afghani civilians, or kill more of your own marines, you dipshits have killed more of your own than the enemy has, friendly fire idiots, it’s a little different than Call of Duty, fucking yanks…

@TuPaCaLyPsE1872 learn your fucking facts as a 0311 Marine in the 31st M.E.U. we did not lose 4400 Marines you dumb fuck, we didn’t even lose half of that, and i am yet to see a seal oversea’s go on a mission, if you are going to credit anyone give it to the rangers and delta force, as much as i am motto about my Corps i give credit where it is do, and all of america’s armed forces have stepped up to the plate, but you will never know what a true combat zone is you waste of life punk ass pussy

@TuPaCaLyPsE1872 4400 marines did not die in the mideast 4412 US military personnel were killed in iraq 1159 US Military personnel were killed in Iraq so what your trying to say is that out of 5571 US Military Personnel the Marine Corps holds the most with 4400 dead that is far from true and you cant compare seals to regular infantry marines seals have superior funding training and equpiment and our 18 year old marines are acomplishing more than the army ever will in this war
TuPaCaLyPsE1872
September 4th, 2010 at 12:51 am
@mrnickels94 id rather have a seal beside me, all the marines are just 18 year olds out of high school that want to shoot shit. The marines performance in the middle east has spoken for itself, 4400 dead, so much for being the best….NOT!

Marine taught 2 kill and survive war > mma fighter taught 2 not tap out or get knocked out for a few rounds.. Not even a comparison 4 people 2 argue about but a average grunt with limited mma techniqes would get his ass handed 2 him by a mma fighter but our recon boys and MarSOC operaters thats a different story they got that look in thier eyes that would make any mma fighter think twice..Marine turned mma fighter thats 1 potnant mix.. @ASHeatherton Thank you. What most people don’t realize is, in recruit training, yea recruits learn respect, discipline and brotherhood and that’s great and all but in the core of it all, recruits are taught how to kill and survive. PERIOD. Everything else is extra. So in a deathmatch, I would bet all my money on a Marine with above average Marine Corps Martial Arts training than an MMA fighter.

@iNeverPlayFair Wow you really are stupid, no wonder you was in the marines. So in your tiny peanut head you really think an MMA fighter is going to follow sanctioend rules in a life or death situation where hes being robbed or assaulted. You really think hes going to avoid kicks to a grounded mugger trying to hurt him. You really think hes going to allow someone trying to kill him to tap out to a submission. You are beyond stupid.

September 4th, 2010 at 4:15 am
@JohnnyBoyCali where the hell are you coming from? As quickly as a Marine?? UFC fighters fight with sanctioned rules for YEARS. It becomes more of a habit to follow them and i dont think a UFC fighter will be able to choose to kill faster than a Marine whose trained to…….

September 4th, 2010 at 4:24 am
@andresm087 Dude if someones robbing you or trying to kill you the last thing i would worry about is fighting like a man. If you rob me Im eye gouging you, stomping your balls or whatever it takes so that I live. But I agree with most of what you said. Can you imagine Wanderlie Silva being robbed? These idiots actually think he would follow MMA rules. If wand was ever robbed the thugs better have guns or else they’re going to either be killed or severly injured.
JohnnyBoyCali
September 4th, 2010 at 4:24 am
@iNeverPlayFair Cmon man use some common sense. Do you really think if some UFC fighter was in a life or death situation, being robbed, car jacked he would follow the rules of a sanctioned MMA fight … ??? Of course he wouldnt. In a real fight a UFC fighter woudl be just as deadly as a marine in war. An MMA fighter would head butt you,eye gouge and kill you just as quickly as a marine.
iNeverPlayFair
September 4th, 2010 at 5:04 am
@andresm087 there are no rules in war u asshole…….the only rule is staying alive long enough to kill the other person trying to kill you. UFC fighting and war fighting are 2 different things. In a UFC fight, the worst thing that can happen is you lose, in war u die.

The Capt. Brian Stann is a REAL Marine not like them bullshit movies WWE comes out with this guy was in the Marine Corps and became Captain of a platoon of 42 soldiers and earned him-self a Silver Star, psh a day job? dude you couldn’t even do what this guy has done even if you wanted to, so why don’t you shut the fuck up and keep throwing cyber cheapshots bitch!

It’s not about how great of a UFC fighter Stann is, it’s about what he represents. That’s where all these tough guy kids go wrong. They have never served and don’t understand what it’s like to sacrifice for something greater than themselves. He’s a model citizen and a combat hero. His former Marines respect him, which is not easy to earn as an officer. Until you’ve had an enemy planning to kill you every day in a combat zone, why don’t you just keep your comments to yourself.

A year ago, I walked into a training session at BombsquadMMA and saw Jon Jones, Phil Davis, and Mike Massenzio all on the mats. Some nasty fighters coming out of the northeast.

@stinkinburrows You’re absolutely right. I think one of the reasons they treat former champions so well is that they’re much easier to promote even if they aren’t doing so well. You don’t need to have a Primetime special for Chuck Liddell as every casual fan of MMA know his name. Even if Stann is only a former title holder in the WEC it still adds clout to his name.

September 4th, 2010 at 10:00 am
@Krumpenstein Plus, they’ve seen what he can do and that he has it in him to be a champion. i think the UFC is much more lenient on former champions in general.

September 4th, 2010 at 10:47 am
@stinkinburrows I concur. Brian Stann is a great ambassador for the sport because of his military background. I’m sure the UFC will be much more lenient with him than they are with other fighters.

@FlakJacket86 He’s just hasn’t really had any good showings in the UFC, I’ve seen people cut for less. I agree with you though.

September 4th, 2010 at 11:20 am
@stinkinburrows why would they cut him? he kicked butt in the WEC and shows potential in the UFC he just needs more work.

I like Stann, but I think the UFC is afraid to cut him because he’s a military man and all of his charity work. Hope to see him winning again. Definitly champion material.
