Yep, Couture/Coleman was actually booked for an event after this fight but a Couture injury forced the cancelletion until it was finally booked at UFC 109
Still allowed Headbutts back then. Coleman was the Shit and Maurice Smith was able to beat him but all of Colemans Fights back in the 90s were Great and Severn’s Record speaks for its self. Two GnP masters at the time.
Coleman was the man back in the days. From his generation of fighters, I’d easily rank him number 2. Let’s face it, Coleman outlasted the rest of his generation except for Randy Couture. After Randy, he was the oldest fighter to win a match in the UFC. Coleman just wasn’t at his form against Randy, but I’m sure Coleman can still beat the rest of his generation today, eg he can still beat Ken Shamrock, Don Frye, Dan Severn, & Pat Smith in 2010.
its a shame to see what the roid abuse has done to coleman.. u should type on google, Mark coleman out of shape, you can see him training with Phil baroni and he looks terrible when he is not on juice.
That was the counter Severn would’ve done if he could’ve pulled it off. Coleman just had the submission in too deep and was too strong for Severn to break free (If you watch just before the submission gets put in, Severn’s arms were already in the right position).
The move Coleman used is actually one of the most basic submission’s taught in the Shooto curriculum.
@wilsondylanmccartney Word. Coleman wasn’t a technically skilled wrestler, he was super steroids strong. If you watch, he’s smothering Severn for most of the time he has him in a headlock too.
Dan is fighting in England next month April 18 th in Newcastle as part of his farewell tour.
I’m fighting on the card and helping out in his corner after!!! How cools that gonna be!!
A steroid monster against a natural wrestler. The steroid monster wins. I wish we could’ve seen what would’ve happened if Dan and Don Frye would’ve been on steroids when they both faced steroid-Mark Coleman. They both would’ve won, hands down.

Was Severn in a position to take his back at 3:27 (bring his right leg over and hook) or was his neck too cranked?
