The UFC routinely out sells HBO Boxing in PPV buys. They’ve been doing so for years. Major Boxing events still get higher PPV buys but the UFC puts on more quality shows than Boxing per year resulting in more overall PPV buys. If this trend continues Mixed Martial Arts may become the premier combat sport.
i’m a fan of both. boxing is contested on a higher level..alot of pro mma fighters look sloppy and amateurish. dana white says griffin vs bonner was the most important ufc fight in history..but most of it looked like a shitty amateur kickboxing match. don’t even wanna go into the ways ufc sucks..i watch every ppv and 90% of the time i’m disappointed…i loved pride tho.
He won a local Muay Thai championship (The UFC used to list this as one of his credentials). I believe it was a local Curitiba tournament. According to Silva he only has 1 loss in around 40 Muay Thai fights and that loss was against Pele. He and Pele are 1-1 against each other.
Anderson Silva was a Muay Thai champ not a Boxing champ. There is one Boxing video on Youtube for him. Boxrec has an unconfirmed loss for him as well which Boxing loyalists are obsessed with.
@Trexty4 Anderson silva walks around at 230 pounds? and muhammid ali didnt look very big either but he is the best boxer in history. what about thiago alves? gsp? brock lesnar? those guys are huge ANDERSON SILVA USED TO BE A PRO BOXER BEFORE MMA GO LOOK AT SOME OF HIS MATCHES HE WAS A BRAZILIAN BOXING WORLD CHAMPION
Did you just call Bruce Lee scrawny? Have you ever seen Bruce Lee? He was practically a body builder, just his physical fitness and nutrition has its own Wikipedia page.
Bruce Lee and Anderson Silva are not scrawny. Lee was lean and cut. He had phenomenal strength for his size. Anderson Silva has a long lanky frame but is very strong as well. MMA is not a bodybuilding contest. The best fighters is not always the one with the most muscular physique. The best fighter is the one who combines athleticism with technique to become a complete fighter.

Scrawny would suggest that he had very little muscle tone. For his size he was incredibly toned and strong. He was nowhere near scrawny.

So, if it doesn’t take a lot of athleticism to do MMA, and boxers can’t make it in MMA, wouldn’t that make a boxer less of an athlete?
