Even though the year is 2006 and Rorion Gracie created the UFC over 13 years ago to show the world that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is the best martial art for self defense, there are still some non-believers. On Friday, September 8, 2006 a Taekwondo Black Belt came in to see if Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is good enough for his wife to learn. He stated that he wanted to fight a Gracie to find out whether or not the art was any good. Rener stepped up to the plate and helped the tae kwon do practitioner realize why Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is here to stay. @mhaneline No, it won’t. Now, give Mommy back the keyboard and go take some martial arts classes or a physics course, or both.

@mhaneline “a life-long shaolin monk that can palm-strike through a concrete wall”??? “a grandmaster ninpo that knows all the deadly pressure points of the body and how to kill with 5lbs of pressure”??? … Why don’t you just learn some spells from Harry Potter or that bullet bending thing from some worthy textile assassins? What’re you, 12?

@MrMZaccone Yes, boxing has developed its defenses since the advent of gloves. However, its punching technique is far superior to almost every martial arts’ punching techniques. In other words, you throw a punch the same way with or without a glove. Yes, in boxing, you use your gloves for defense, which you wouldn’t have in a street fight. That does not diminish the effectiveness of the punching technique.

@MrMZaccone Punching, like anything, has its roll in any fight if done properly. The same goes for kicking and grappling. However, Karate is not superior at all for the “real world”. I took Karate, and, quite frankly, while it has many benefits, it is an inferior martial art for actual combat. Many of Karate’s blocks leave a person wide open. Second, all martial arts are developed for gloveless punching, including boxing (developed long before gloves existed).

@GabLam0 Saying that BJJ requires strength is making obvious the fact that your “opinion” is based on nothing but one false assumption after another and no genuine information whatsoever.

@del1000005 When did I imply that MMA fighters “have an inferior punching method”? My contention is that punching as a strategy for real world self defense is an inherently inferior methodology. To answer your strawman argument however, karate methodolgy is superior to boxing for the real world because it is based on the real world assumption of a bare hand.

@MrMZaccone That makes no sense. When punching, you can always break your hand, especially if unwrapped and ungloved. There is no dispute there, but to imply that MMA fighters have an “inferior” punching method is absurd. Most of them use a traditional boxing approach to striking (for punching anyway). That striking works just fine.

“an MMA approach to martial arts is the most effective fighting method.” Until you break your unwrapped, ungloved hand on someone’s head … and you will.

uh actually buddy there is a difference. GRACIE jui jitsu is all about self defense. BJJ or Brazilian jui jitsu is the sport aspect of it

That guy is definately not a black belt in taekwondo. He probly told them that to make himself look like a hot shot but no way he is a black belt in tkd. He didnt even throw a single kick, even a white belt in tkd would have attempted atleast one kick.
